Benson Brook Rd Boutique is open for the season Starting Wednesday April 16 - October 29 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM (Wednesdays Only). Drop offs only accepted on Wednesdays. Please see attendant at the Swap Shop for more information.
Rules and Regulations Approved by the Select Board on April 2, 2024:
The Benson Brook Boutique is the Town of Marion’s swap shop, located within the Marion Transfer Station, 55 Benson Brook Road in Marion. Benson Brook Boutique is owned by the Town, staffed by volunteers, and maintained by the Department of Public Works (DPW) staff. The purpose of the Benson Brook Boutique is to keep serviceable items out of the waste stream. This will reduce the Town of Marion’s disposal costs while allowing residents free access to a variety of useful items. Residents of Marion and Rochester, with a current Transfer Station Sticker are allowed to use the Benson Brook Boutique.
Hours of Operation: The Benson Brook Boutique will typically be open on Wednesdays 9:00AM – 2:00PM, operating April through October. The hours of operation will be dependent upon the availability of volunteers to oversee operations. The Marion DPW reserves the right to change operating hours without notice.
Benson Brook Boutique Visits: Parking is limited to 15 minutes for drop off and pick up. Visits are limited to once per day. No loitering or abusive behavior will be tolerated. Any complaints need to be submitted in writing to the Marion DPW via mail to 50 Benson Brook Road, Marion, MA 02738 or by email to mariondpw@marionma.gov.
Drop Off: Items will be accepted during swap shop operating hours only. All items must be clean, dry, and in working condition. The attendant has the final say on whether items are accepted or denied. If the swap shop is collecting more items than it can handle or too much of a certain item, the attendant has the discretion to refuse the item. Failure to adhere to the instructions of the attendant or improper behavior could lead to removal of the Transfer Station privileges.
Acceptable Items:
- Household items – kitchenware, lamps, picture frames, art décor, etc.
- Lawn and garden supplies/equipment
- Luggage
- Pet supplies
- Sports equipment
- Tools
- Toys, puzzles, games (no broken or missing pieces)
Items NOT Accepted:
- Books
- Child safety equipment – car seats, bed rails (due to safety concerns & recalls)
- Electronics – televisions, computers, VCR/DVD players
- Equipment with gasoline – lawnmowers, snowblowers, chain saws
- Food
- Hazardous materials
- Large appliances
- Liquids – paint, household cleaners, medicine, pesticides, chemicals
- Mattresses
- Rugs
- Textiles – clothing, bedding, linens, pillows
Items not listed: The acceptability or denial of any items not listed will be determined by the attendant, whose decision is final.
Pick up: Authorized visitors are permitted to choose up to 10 items per visit that they can use at their residence.
Volunteers: The Marion DPW is always looking for volunteers that are interested in working at the Benson Brook Boutique. If you are enthusiastic about reuse and have a few hours too spare, please consider volunteering.
