Sailing Instructor

Essential Functions:

  • Strong sailing skills and experience are required. U.S. Sailing Association Instructor or Coach Certification preferred.
  • Responsible for working on small projects and lesson plans to teach the fundamentals of sailing while keeping it fun, educational, and age-appropriate
  • Responsible for all landside and on-the-water aspects of the conduct of their classes. This includes assisting students with preparing and launching their sailboats, reviewing and ensuring that rigging is done correctly, and that the boats are in safe, working condition.
  • Responsible for reporting any problems with the condition of any boat used in the program to the Director, and logging them in the Maintenance Log.
  • CPR, First Aid, Small Craft Safety Required - training is available
  • Experience teaching, coaching, and/or mentoring children preferred

Maintenance/Laborer

Part-time seasonal position. Must be 16 1/2 years older and possess a valid Massachusetts Driver's License. Also required is CPR/AED certification. CPR/AED certification is available for new employees. Operates equipment of little complexity for all park projects. Hauls gravel, dirt, sand, seaweed, and other materials. Perform manual labor frequent use of small tools is required. Work is performed under varying field and weather conditions. Frequent strenuous physical effort is required when performing work. Physical ability to lift heavy materials such as sandstone and tools. Sanitation and cleaning of public buildings and restrooms throughout the Town of Marion. Weekend availability is required. Work on July 4th is also a must.

Lifeguards

Part-time seasonal position (up to 40 hrs./week) must be at least 16 years of age. Performs rescue and lifesaving techniques as required in emergencies. Ensures that the swimming area is kept free of hazards and that proper safety regulations are followed. Applicants must be in good physical shape and can meet all physical requirements of a certified lifeguard. Must pass a swim test before employment. Work requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting for long periods and requires excellent eyesight and hearing (well within normal ranges). This position requires CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguard Training and Community First Aid and Safety. CPR/AED certification is available for new employees. This position also requires schedule flexibility, with mandatory weekends and light maintenance duties. All lifeguards must be available to work July 4th as well as the weekend following or before July 4th, depending on which is closer to the holiday. Daily exercise and frequent safety drills are required. Weekend availability is required.

Summer Program Counselor

The Silvershell Summer Program begins June 17th and runs until August 5th Monday through Friday from 8 am-5 pm. This is a part-time seasonal employment position and you must be at least 16 years of age to apply. General Responsibilities include supervising and engaging with children participating in the program, organizing and leading recreational activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of participants, resolving conflicts, implementing program rules and policies, communicating with parents or guardians, and collaborating with other staff members to create a positive and enriching experience for all participants. Counselors may also be responsible for planning and executing educational or skill-building activities, providing emotional support, and serving as role models for participants. Additionally, they may need to undergo training in areas such as child safety, first aid, and behavior management.

Silvershell Gate Attendant

The Silvershell Beach gate guard's job is to ensure that only authorized individuals enter, enforce safety regulations, provide information and assistance to visitors, and report any incidents or issues to appropriate authorities. They may also be responsible for maintaining cleanliness, and performing other duties as assigned by management. Additionally, they need to possess good communication skills and be able to handle various situations diplomatically and effectively.
